Nabasa ko yung first issue ng Espiritista (Greetings and Farewell) last Summer Komikon at nakakatuwa na nasundan nya agad ng bagong issue ito.

Okay tong series ni Nino. Na-enjoy namin basahin ni Misis after the event. Nakakatuwa yung characters plus interesante ang story. Cute yung size ng comics, pwedeng-pwedeng iipit sa notebook hehe..Magsusulat ako ng review nung first issue next time. Excited ako rito para sa pangalawa!

Nilabas na ito last Indieket 2012 ni Jervyn under T-phase Comics.  I really like the story kahit prologue palang ito.  Very interesting yung characters.  Yung art sa first pages, medyo marumi tignan, but sa later pages naman kitang kita yun improvement, luminis na yun art, lalo ko na-enjoy yun kwento.  So, ano naman kaya maiipakitang iba neto sa naunang labas?  Under Nuclear Winter Comics?

Ano ang inaabangan ko sa revamped na Seven Souls (Prologue)?
1.  Updated story and art; especially sa first few pages.
2.  Production side, since this edition is much cheaper than the last year's; dati 80 pesos sa T-phase pero ang printing quality naman panalo.

Sisikapin daw ni Gio Paredes na ihabol itong Kalayaan #15 sa Indieket.

Akalain mo yun? Naka-15 issues na pala so far si Kalayaan? Bilib talaga ako sa sipag at dedication ni Gio sa pagko-komiks. Hindi ako sigurado kung sya na ngayon ang may hawak ng record bilang "longest running indie comics series." Kung sakali man, hindi na rin siguro ako magugulat.

Bukod sa regular Kalayaan issues, nakapaglabas pa nga sya ng Kalayaan #0 (special introductory comic) plus Kalayaan Vol.1: A New Pinoy Superhero trade paperback (na available nationwide thru National Book Store). Sa ngayon, nag-i-ink pa nga sya para sa Bayan Knights #7 eh (i-discuss ko yan sa isa pang blog entry in the future).

Parang kelan lang nung nag-start ako bumili sa kanya (usually by mail ko natatanggap yung Kalayaan comics) at ngayon nasa 15 na sya. WOW! Kudos, Gio, for 15 issues!

Nawa'y magtuloy-tuloy pa ang Kalayaan at nawa'y dumami pa ang creators na kasing sipag mo - para dumami rin ang mas masayang mga readers gaya ko hehe!Ano ang dapat abangan for this issue?

1. Base sa cover, mukhang magiging mahangin ang issue na ito.

2. Sino nga kaya si Buhawi? Hero o villain? Member ba sya ng Parokya ni Edgar? Malalaman natin pag nabasa natin to hehe.. Sa blog entry ni Gio, magiging "one of the major characters" daw tong si Buhawi.

3. Base sa preview page na ito, mukhang patuloy si Gio sa pag-improve bilang artist. Yan yung isa sa gustong-gusto ko sa pagbabasa ng comics nya actually. Yung nakikita ko yung growth nya as writer and illustrator. Nakaka-inspire! Panalo sa details tong panel 1.

Tong komiks na to ay especially recommended by my partner-in-crime Mark Rosario.  Bihira lang, pero whenever may suggestion sya, I know, it is worth to read.  Tama sya, this is so good na you would like others to read it too.  Isa to sa mga paborito kong dinadala sa office, and if may gusto humiram, go, sige lang, these kind of books deserved to be shared.  Very inspiring.  Kahit sa preface o foreword palang, nakakagaan na ng pakiramdam.  Be inspired.........

A story about a right love at the wrong time.

This is my favorite so far.  Parang akong nanonood ng telenobela o nagbabasa ng novel ni Nicholas Sparks.  Kahit ilang beses ko na sya nabasa, apektado parin ako sa kwento.  Bawat page ay talagang na-appreciate ko, ang husay ng drawing ni Ronzkie, sobrang detalyado at malinis ang pagkakagawa.  Kitangkita ang damdamin ng bawat character, hindi ko mapigilan madala sa bawat eksena.  Ang twist.  Ang surprise.  hmmm..... un lang, baka makapagbigay pa ako ng spoiler... Kaya bili na kayo para malaman nyo ang tinutukoy ko...

At dahil sa husay sa pagsulat ni Andoyman, nagtagumpay syang guluhin ang utak ko.  Kahit Simulang kabanata palang eto ng kabuuan ng kwento nya, talagang napapa-isip ako, ilang beses ko binalikan ang earlier pages para sa mga details na hindi ko agad napansin.  Eto yung komiks na talagang mabibitin ka at masasabik sa mga susunod pang issue.

Oo nandun si Wolverine, kaya bumili ka na ng CFCCA para malaman mo kung bakit..

Art-wise, Baboy ang pinaka-favorite kong gawa ni Mel. Story-wise, dito ako sa Mukat. Nakakaiwiling basahin. Nakakatuwa yung mga characters at yung story mismo. Para kang nagbasa ng isang kwento sa Funny Komiks o nanoon ng isang episode ng anime. At congrats, Mel! Nakakasampung-issue na pala itong Mukat! Not bad considering na ginawa nya to way back estudyante days pa nya. Dati sa mga classmates nya lang shine-share. Ngayon, lumaki na ang following ng Mukat at isa na ito sa laging inaabangan ng mga buyers tuwing may convention. I'm sure pasunod na soon yung Mukat Vol. 2 compilation!

Ano ang dapat abangan for this issue?
1. According kay Mel, puno ng "action at revelation" ang issue na ito.
2. Bibida sa issue sina Jani at Sapok!
3. Personally, isa sa inaabangan ko tuwing merong bagong issue ng Mukat ay yung mga Pangasinense words na ginagamit nya bilang pangalan ng mga tao at mga lugar (Gurabis, Bambanu, Andila, Kulayot, etc). Napaka-random at nakakatawa lalo't tiga-Pangasinan din ako.

Gustong gusto ko ang dibuho at panitikan ni Jaudaux sa komiks na to.  Yung mga dialogue na straight Tagalog, pinoy na Pinoy at may kalaliman.  Ang dami kong natutunan na mga bagong salita.  Yung mga Philippine mythological characters rin nya, very distinct.  Very expressive yung mga mukha nila.  Panalo rin ang humor ni Jaudaux, simpleng bumanat, pero super kwela.

It is nice na malaman na buhay na buhay ang Komiks sa bookstores.  Nagkakaroon ng launching and signing events.  Nakikita narin natin ang ibang title na nasa Top Ten monthly bestseller sa Philipine Publication category.  May mga branches na may dedicated table para sa mga Pinoy graphic novels.  Minsan nasa corner shelves kaya madali talaga makita.  O pumunta ka sa Phlippine Fiction and Literature, makikta mo sila, though most branches hindi organized yun racks, try asking nalang yun sales lady or inquire sa Customer Service.  The first photo above was taken sa SM Megamall branch, very organized, sama-sama mga pinoy graphic novel, almost two levels ng shelf ang na-occupy, sarap pagmasdan.  In the near future, baka buong shelf na ma-occupy or magkaroon na sana ng Phil. Comic/Graphic Novel section.
